Awesome thought provoking read. I think it's great to challenge why we seemingly want what we want. I think I want to get married and then when I ask myself why i want it, it sort of breaks down. The thing that keeps popping up for me during this read is of the many studies showing that people live happier and healthier lives in relationships (although toxic relationships cause the opposite of course!!) and that splitting up and not being in a relationship / marriage means people don't live as long (a quick google found this http://www.psychpage.com/family/library/brwaitgalligher.html). This would be the support and love you get i guess? Another thought, in Elizabeth Gilbert's book 'Committed' she mentions how women statistically live shorter lives when married and men live longer lives when married. So us women tend to give up more of ourselves, become a little less healthier etc.... where as men get taken better care of. Food for thought.

Sarah, I only stumbled upon your amazing blog earlier this year. I read all your new posts, but have been making time lately to read some of your older posts. I love this insight and guidance by the shaman.."I don’t much go for relationships. And that I shouldn’t. Go for them, that is. Nor should most women like me. If we want to be happy".
I relate to you and your situation in many ways and whilst I have a vision for myself of the societal ideals, I have found relationships don't much work for me :/
Often I am consistently happier, and relate better to myself and others, when I am not in a relationship.
I am wondering however (at the risk of asking too personal of a question).... if now that you are further along your journey and feeling much healthier if you still share the same view?

Have you ever been to clipper cafe at glebe n have the toasted bread+poached egg+mushroom+pesto sauce.
It tasted quite amazing. they hv a lot of interior design magazine To read if you r into that kind of stuffs. It is small n pretty busy At times. so try to come about 7am.

thnks for the comment! I can only imagine how busy you are.

Yeah I used to be loyally devoted to bottled water. When in your post you said how ppl do blind test n can't tell the difference, I actually do the blind test myself. And I realized that it's all in my head all along . both tasted as nice. Well they r abit different. But not in the sense that one is nicer/fresher than the other.

Hm when I get sick, I'll go to giulia n ask for free stuff.
(that's a joke)

ps: did you watch dr Phil today? He was talking about why men cheat. He said that you can tell by their hands. If the ring finger is longer than index finger, he's more likely to cheat because of the high testoterone level. ( can't spell that word)
he explaind that the gene and brain condition can cause 70% of the reason why men cheat. So if you damage the head with sport, it can affect the brain. You can also do a DNA test to see if a man has the gene of a cheater.
But of course the remaining 30% is by choice. Some of the experts r debating if sex addiction exist or is it just an excuse. Because back then ages ago, when life is simpler, it didn't exist. But now because of the modern times and people want more stimulation (and something Which I don't remember) so sex addiction exist gambling addiction exist, game addiction exist, etc

what do you think?

You are A very wise unconventional cool woman.
I just started read your blog recently (don't know where the hell I've been all this while)

Anyway I love this article and it kind of get me thinking and writing something about how I feel about relationship ( in my blog), which I just started, abit silly at times, but getting there.(hopefully one day!)

My pleasure Sarah. There isn't anything much more fulfilling than truly connecting with a friend, lover, family member or even a stranger in a coffee shop (a smile reciprocated is a wonderful thing)!

We could all do it a bit more, I think. Anyway, enough philosophising!

I wish I was a glow worm,
A glow worm's never glum.
How can you be unhappy,
When the sun shines out yer bum!

Kindest.
