declutterer: a vexing perve into lindsay lohan’s wardrobe

Posted on February 14th, 2010

Have you seen this? Somehow a reporter from Insider got to go into LL’s house and rummage through a wardrobe that’s taken over the apartment. There are not enough days left in that girl’s life to wear all those clothes.

It’s actually gross. Not the clutter, but the mindless consumption of so much stuff. It distressed me.

As the journo (can you call her that?) says,  it’s a reflection of the chaos that is Lohan’s life. Guilt-laden, unconscious and tripping.

$5 says she’s trying to get featured on some celebrity hoarder show …

The really distressing thing for me is that in the ‘after’ videos, most of that stuff seems to still be there, just better organised. How can one person – even a celebrity – possibly wear all those clothes and shoes? I just counted and I have 13 pairs of shoes, and I rarely wear some of those!

I have nothing wrong with anybody having plenty of things. There is no shortage of anything excepts ideas.

Maybe not as orderly as I’d like, but kudos to her for having the wealth to buy whatever you want.

ooohhhhh, Ryan, I can’t agree with you there. We have limited material resources and we abuse them. It’s ugly and most people don’t like being around it because intuitively they feel it’s wrong. On the other hand, there is no shortage of ideas.
And on the wealth front – LL doesn’t strike me as having very much true wealth. Just money.

  • On one level I feel really sorry for LL but on another I’m completely disappointed in her complete lack of self respect and social conscience.

Ryan, it’s more likely that she is given all this stuff for free by designers who want to see her photographed wearing their garments.

    I feel sorry for her.

  • You’re right to question the journo on this episode. She’s actually not a journo, but hosts a show called Clean House. It’s a decluttering and makeover show helping hoarders in the US.
I run a ‘decluttering’ business and have seen some extreme cases, but LL definately takes the cake with that shoe collection!

I absolutely agree about your comment Sarah, regarding limited resources. I really try and teach clients to streamline what they have so that they can get on with their lives and enjoy their homes. It’s about finding that balance so you don’t live in a minimalist space void of personality but also cutting down on ‘stuff’ just for the sake of having it. If you’re not going to wear an outfit again – give it to someone who could really use it.

whilst i agree with you sarah about the consumerism, and I am currently trying to downsize my life, i just want to say that clean house is a great show. it may seem unimportant, but its a great show that is a wake up call.
