Thank you for this. I am currently trying to decide whether or not I should transfer colleges, and this helped me think about it in a new way. No more agonizing over the decision for me. Thank you!

On the American spelling front - my American computer insists on spelling it that way and I don't always pick up on it to correct it.

Yes, I reckon satisficing is actually very good for joint decisions. Or at least it can provide a framework to work to. Although WHY you left the Gold Coast Hinterland, I DO NOT know. My favourite place in Australia!

[...] So it seems it’s a good step to aim for perfection if it’s what you want, not to appease others. And maybe it’s also worth considering the idea of ’satisficing’ rather than ‘maximising’ as described by Sarah Wilson. [...]

We choose our present house like the woman choose her holiday place. Andrew and I are great at making big decisions- we make them quickly and painlessly. Many years ago we woke up one morning living in the hinterland on the Gold Coast , I turned to him and said “let’s buy a house and move to Brisbane” – a few weeks later done! More recently when it was time for another house move, we were searching for a new home and we initially wanted different things - him acreage, me closer to the city. After a few fruitless searches we decided that our next home was to be not our "perfect" home but our 'transitionary" home for the next several years. We changed our focus and context for the search. Then a quick check list - pool, price range, close to bike paths and parks, up high, no renovating needed - a couple of weeks later done - contract signed and sealed with everything we wanted except being on a hill (That is also important knowing what to let go of!) We are very happy for now!

Sarah, why are you spelling "maximise" with a z? That's American. Are you American? Are you living in America? Is your audience American?
