Thank you, Sarah, for putting what I'm feeling into words.

Ever since I first visited New York last year, I have been feeling strongly that this is my city. I want to live there so badly, but I've had a hard time put words on why.

Now I know, it is the unlimited possibilites in every aspect of life that draws me to the city.

I have discovered my dream goal in life. I have already started to work towards this goal, both conciously and unconciously. unfortunately, due to visas and work permissions, I can't just move there straight away. But reaching your life goal isn't supposed to be easy, right?

Hi Sarah
How comforting it was to read about your New York adventure. We visited New York in January 2010 and had the pleasure of staying on West 11th Street, or for those who are New York unfamiliar, three doors up from the Magnolia Bakery. As an 30 something Australian female, I was miffed at the Magnolia Bakery queues. We arrived in New York on a sub zero Sunday evening and the first thing I really took note of, was the excessive queue that straddled most of West 11th Street for the Magnolia Bakery. We had the delight of staying in this location for 11 snow filled days and to my utter Australian ignorance of other things, people queued day an night, regardless of weather, for the Magnolia Bakery. I never actually saw the place close, although I was assured by New Yorkers that somewhere in the early hours of the morning they shut the doors for a little while. Crazy I thought until about day 8 when I said to my Australian male partner "come on, lets see what all the fuss is about". So on a not so cold day but still snowing we stood, in the Magnolia Bakery queue. Within minutes we were lost in conversation with the locals, sharing stories, touching lives and uncovering another layer of the amazing city of New York. I often wonder if the immense sense of community that exists in the village structure of New York is born from the act of queuing. I certainly wish we queued a bit more around here. Thanks for taking me back to that wonderful place for just a moment. As for the cupcakes - it's a New York thing but I should let you know, we queued a few more times in that line, just to meet some locals.

Sarah - lovely positive angle on queuing. I organise my life around avoiding queues as I view them as a waste of time, eg, get to places early, never go into banks/GPO, etc at peak times, go on holidays outside peak times, etc...It's always been one of my struggles when I go to the US....I'll try it next time, queuing that is. (I'm already getting anxious thinking about it)..

Enjoy this glorious Sydney sunday...
