this blog makes life better, sweeter.
I'm a journalist + TV presenter. I write about how to make life better. If I had a resume it would list the following: editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, host of MasterChef Australia, Sunday Life columnist, host + producer of the Lifestyle YOU channel (under "hobbies" it would say: eating + riding a bike).
I'm on a mission to find ways to make life bigger, more meaningful, nicer, smarter, heartier. ![]()
Argh. Tears.
Children’s emotions are so pure. That little boy’s face just broke my heart.
“I missed you Daddy.” Argh!

Sarah,
My long term boyfriend is in the army and has recently expressed his desire to be a peace keeper in the Solomon Islands. The rotation would be for 6 months. I cannot imagine how even more difficult this would be if we had children. This moved me a lot.
Thanks for sharing xx

wow i just spent the weekend with my bro and his kids…he is away alot not overseas but just out on training runs with recruits…he goes through this all the time right here in Australia…the kids don’t really understand how long he’s been gone…they really cling to him the whole time he is home! it really is important to cherish every moment we have together with the ones we love…x

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw and they had the American Beauty theme as well… shit now Im crying. Ive seen that one before but it still touches a soft spot doesnt it?
I get in those moods too but I dont tend to think of them as sad… more open. Like, you are completely raw to the world and all its up and down sides. No point protecting yourself from it, its just the spectrum of human emotion, highly valuable. Its funny how Youtube has made this so much easier. I also like to watch videos of really emo music (Good Charlotte’s acoustic version of Misery is my favourite) when my AI disease is kicking my butt. It is what it is…. whatever gets you through the night, yeah?

I’m sorry, but that was so lame. Putting that sappy music with the video, and the slow motion hahaha! It was trying waaaaay to hard to evoke emotions.
Why doesn’t the guy leave the US Navy and watch his child grow up?

I think, in essence, it was a beautiful moment between the father and son, but I have to agree, the way the clip was put together was way too sappy. Why does the American media always manage to make everything seem cheesy – you can almost imagine them saying “let’s wring this one out for all its worth”.

This is not like my usual eggs in handbags for breakfast posts….
Thank you dear Sarah. If it helps know a lot of people have got the sads at the moment, feeling raw and open. You just saying it means a great deal and is a testimony to your congruency with authenticity.
This was really beautiful. I have recently had the amazing fortune to work with a group of sailors who have been deployed for eight months in counter piracy work – rescuing hostages, tough and dangerous work. Each one had a young family, who they loved and missed desperately – but each of them believed their professional skills were being used in the best way, they truly felt they were giving their skills as a service. It was pretty humbling and touching. I was honored to work with them.
