wholeheartedness: come meet Brene Brown (free tickets!)
I need to share this story. So. Three people over the past three months – one of my best mates Rosie, my new friend Kazzie, and Maria from Brainpickings – alerted me to scientist and “shame” expert Brene Brown.
You might recall my “three signs and I act” theory?
So. I read her book The Gifts of Imperfection. And saw her on TED.com (see below). Was stupendously inspired. And then contacted her to see if we could do a Skype interview down the track for my Sunday Life column…about shame and some other wonderfully rich ideas she has studied on wholeheartedness.
And whattayaknow…!? She’s in Australia, in Sydney THE EXACT SAME WEEK that I’m going to be back in Sydney. I love it. It’s perfect. It just is.
It gets better. ChangeLabs is hosting Brene for a free lecture Thursday 30th June at The Independent Theatre in North Sydney, from 8:30 – 11am.
Simply register here.
Update: this event is now completely sold out. You can put your name on the waiting list if you would like, and if a seat becomes available ChangeLabs will contact you for a ticket.
Brene talks about ridding yourself of certainty, being deliberate, and being wholehearted. You can get a taste of things from this TED.com presentation.
“Connection is why we’re here.”
Or buy her book, The Gifts of Imperfection, possibly the most convincing read I’ve encountered. She’s bold. Solid. Raw. I’m ridiculously excited about meeting her.
Come! If you can! This is real stuff!!

Do you know if she’s holding any lectures in Melbourne?

I’ve seen her TED talk, and I’ll be honest — it made me cry. She exudes something beautiful, and the word “wholeheartedness” really speaks to me.
I will definitely be getting her book!

I’d a hypnotherapy session on Monday and one of the memories was when I was 18 months old and I decided I can’t be who I am. I have to be who I think I should be because being me is not enough and then 2 days later you post this….wow.
Thank you for sharing it.

This is great Sarah, thank you.

Profound, insightful, beautiful. I think we intuitively know her message already, but it’s easier and less scary to stay in the ‘numbing’ cycle…. Thanks for sharing Sarah! This made my day. x

Hey guys,
I LOVE this. I so needed to watch that video right now.
Does anybody know of any forums or websites we can all chat on? I mentioned to Sarah about a year ago about how a forum on her site would be wonderful… I just don’t know any forums where like minded women and mind can chat about life, love, health, spirituality and current affairs… any suggestions?
Cheers,
Rosie

She’s wonderful and this is the third time she has come up for me in the last week. So there’s my signs:-) My business is built on the premise of gifting yourself and helping others with a deeper purpose of connecting people more wholly with themselves in the way she describes. I believe this will create a more openhearted and more human world where we are inherently more curious and generous. thanks Sarah for bringing one of my signs x

Hi Eilish,
I was wondering what your business is that has a beautiful premise like that…..
I am looking at my career and assessing what changes I can make that would create
a positive impact to my life and others.
Thanks,
V

Hi V
I design and produce a range of classic contemporary semi precious gemstone jewellery. I hand select the stones for their beauty, quality and their vibrational energies. It’s wonderful work
Gemstones have been worn for hundreds of years as much for their vibrational and healing energies as for adornment eg Aquamarine is the stone of communication so you might wear it when you give a presentation or know that you will have an important conversation. It is about expressing your truth with love and courage. They really work people come back all the time to tell me about their experiences wearing my pieces. It’s very fulfilling when you know that what you have created helps people and they feel beautiful wearing something you have created.
My idea was to create a business based on circular giving where the pieces are made in India providing employment and keeping artisan crafts alive. Sold in the first world where people would feel beautiful when wearing them, and then part of the proceeds returns to India to educate young girls thus completing the circle. It is about buying with awareness of where the pieces have come from, their meaning and also that we are all connected and dependent on each other. My website is http://www.shashenjewels.com if you fancy having a look or come say hello at Orange Grove market or Bondi one week.
This idea emerged over a number of years of serendipitous events, lots of energy work and meditation and later a spiritual retreat in Brazil. It is like all gifts both challenging and satisfying. Good luck with your search. You will find your way or it will find you. Enjoy x Eilish

Have been a huge fan of Brene Brown’s since discovering her about a year or so ago. The book is fantastic. I’ve given several copies to friends who have also found it inspiring and helpful. The data is no surprise, but Brene’s way of digesting it and serving it up in an accessible way is awe-inspiring.
Sign up for her emails. They are always poignant and timely – http://www.brenebrown.com/

Brene Brown is a gem. Loved her book. Like Nichola I have been a subscriber to her website for a while and just recently did an e-course on shame that she ran. If you get a chance to do that – snatch it. It is well worth it.

I am grateful for serendipity. I was about to go into a heartachy wallowy wine fest – and Sarah, you’ve yet again come up with the goods.
