A little while back I finished making a TV show. It’s a nutrition makeover show. It’s called Eat Yourself Sexy. The premise is simple: I take 8 average Australian women and show them how to eat their way back to wellness in 8 weeks. It’s all it takes. And they wind up eating MORE than they’ve ever eaten before. Here’s a sneak look… and below some behind the scenes shots from the shooting of the promo.
Where can you see it?
Lifestyle YOU (Foxtel and Austar)
When?
August 25, 8.30pm
Why?
Because it’s a show that spreads REAL eating advice and is wholly accessible and all about pointing at the telly and saying, “Wow, that’s me, I do that” and, “Wow, that’s not complicated or hard, I can make that change”.
The women are mostly size 14-16, with kids and jobs (REAL). I swear, we see ourselves in all these women and their food and body dilemmas. We don’t whisk them away and lock them in a house and put them through artificial boot camp misery…we do the overhauls in their homes, as they go about the rest of their lives. And the exercise is done in their backyard – no fancy Pilates props (REAL). And we don’t feed the women lettuce leaves. They eat 1600-2000 calorie diets (the recommended amount)…it’s just that it’s all good, nourishing, healing, sexy food (it’s not called Starve Yourself Sexy).
I also share a lot of my little tips and tricks for easier, healthier eating and Emma the nutritionist puts her recipes up on the website for you to download later.
It’s a simple little show. No croquembouche challenges. But it’s REAL and it helps us live better lives. AND it’s not just about losing weight. The funny thing is, at the end of the eight weeks, all the women comment most excitedly on the same thing. Not the weight they’ve lost (which is considerable). But their energy and clarity. They feel good. Their bowels are working. Their skin glows. They hop up stairs. They have shape. And they’ve managed to eat themselves young (we do cellular bioimpedance tests that test how old their bodies are …you can read about that here.)
Anyway. Watch. And let me know your thoughts.
Here’s some pics Jo took during the shooting of the promo a few weeks back…
Lisa (weilding hairspray) is one of my favourite people. She apologises for poisoning me with her wares.
I had to click a lot. And I couldn't that day...my fingers were sweaty!
Me and Jo. I'm eating the props - cashews - and Jo finds this funny.
Jens is the creative director and he's a legend...and always looks after me.

The show sounds great but I don’t have Foxtel so will not be able to view it.

I absolutely love the idea of this show Sarah! It’s right down my ally. I have a question for you though, once you know all about diet and exercise and how to treat your body, how do you consistently maintain a healthy lifestyle? I know what I should eat and and how much I should exercise, and yet I constantly find myself eating poorly and not moving enough. Help!

Hey Georgie, the trick to actually DOING what you know you need to do is making a shift in your mindset. You need to shift your ideas about yourself, your body, about what’s possible for you. Often women will sabotage themselves on a diet or program because of deeply held unconscious beliefs and emotional pain that keeps them stuck. I write a lot about mindset and motivation to get healthy, that’s my speciality.
Just FYI, I don’t usually put links in other people’s amazing blogs, though I will now because my articles will help you with this problem.

Wow, 1600-2000 calories a day! I like the sound of that. I am currently whipping my ass into shape, existing on 1200 calories a day and burning off 500 calories per day exercising 5 days a week and 1000 Calories on Saturdays. Living in Canberra, this is a recipe for a dull, harsh winter. Not happy Jan!
I love the sound of the show. Go Sarah!

I’m in the UK, how can I get to see it :0( – this is just up my street!
I get sick of people moaning about not wanting the extra calories of the good fats, for example. A friend of mine didn’t want the extra calories of an avocado, in HER BURRITO, filled with cheese, sour cream, meat etc etc. (rant over, sorry!)
A bit gutted I can’t get to see this or take part. I think the show would be a great hit over here too!
Sarah, you are amazing, I love your blog, keep up the great work!

If you’re Pro Fat, google the Paleo diet, or Primal Lifestyle.. Perfect for people who aren’t scared of fat, and makes you feel amazing!
Summary –
Eating all natural non processed foods. Meat, Fruit, Veggies, eggs etc.
Cutting out all Dairy, Grains and Legumes.
Much better than the meal plan from this show, which I’m sorry, but Rice Bubbles for breakfast?
The whole diet looks very light on in real Protein.
In 1600 Calories you could get so much more nutrition from whole real foods, and not be hungry at all!
Sorry, not ragging on the show. I think the concept is amazing and such a great way to show it’s possible to change your life while you’re still living it! It’s just the meal plan I’m not a fan of..
[Reply]
You’re amazing!! (And you look gorgeous!) Glad I could watch the promo. I like the premise of the show. Because I used to be an athlete, women at the office are always asking me for advice on weight loss. I now direct them to your site (and others I’ve found through your site), so that they can find tips as to how to bump up the nutrition a notch. I really believe that once people figure out what food is all about the weight loss element loses its priority (and they can stop being so hard on themselves!). I’m so impressed with your drive to deliver this important message.

Would that be the worst thing in the world though, to want to be/ feel sexy? I want to feel sexy and sexuality is important. There are heaps of lifestyle shows out there telling you about nutrition, which is great & vital, but it’s been done. I LOVE the idea that healthy sexuality is tied in with taking care of yourself. Real women! Real food! Sexiness! Hurrah!
Either way though I am sad that the issue women’s sexuality has become so convoluted in the first place…
[Reply]
July 22nd, 2011 at 6:37 pm
I didn’t realise those two adjectives were mutually exclusive.
Judging by the amount of women on this blog in search of a partner
I would say that eating yourself sexy is a pretty good place to start.

Mike, you obviously havent spent much time around “feminists” (and I use the term usely, like using the term Catholics to describe kiddy fiddlers) who believe that ANY enjoyment of sex, desire for sex, desire to appear sexy for yourself or males or even just wanting to look cute, makes you a tool of the “patriarchy.” Dont you realise that the evil Men That Be are using sex to turn all us women into slaves? Insert made-up statistics about rape, domestic violence and torture in third world countries as a result of sex positivity.
Obviously this is a sore spot with me also. Im going to go put on my high heels and lipstick now, and to hell with it all.

Sarah, your blog is my go to daily and I love it. Gotta say though the promo to your show annoyed me. I realize you are the host and not director , but totally sick of ‘sexy’ being promoted as an ultimate goal for women, and insultingly to the contestants implying that sexy exists in a certain dress size. Promo made me shudder. Like the concept of show, but turned off by this angle. Still, love your work, my two bob.
[Reply]
July 22nd, 2011 at 3:30 pm
I believe Sarah was also the producer on the show, so had some input. And I’m with you Sharni- sexy comes in all sizes, shapes and forms. The reason I enjoy this blog is it is really all about self awareness, self acceptance and just being natural. I know the show is around healthy eating, but the promo suggests that being skinny is the only way to being sexy.
I certainly won’t be wasting my money signing up to foxtel.

Listen to you lot! It’s a great title. Get over it.
[Reply]
July 23rd, 2011 at 3:19 pm
Hey guys, it’s a title. It’s a title that draws many people in. The show I can assure you is about health and glow and confidence and energy and sparkle and clarity. The focus is not about cookie-cutting women down to a size 12. The focus isn’t so much on weight-loss, but on feeling sexy/healthy/sparkly. The refreshing thing about the upsshot, all the women finished their 8 weeks commenting far more on their energy and their relationship with their partners, rather than the the kilos they lost.
Oh, and that’s the other thing…part of the premise of the show is that these women had lost their libido and feared for their relationship with their husband/boyfriends due to their lack of energy and love for themselves…ergo the “sexy” title.
July 23rd, 2011 at 11:26 pm
Sex sells guys that why!, eat yourslf fantastic would suit me better. After a few days of eating super healthy that’s exactly how I feel. Aa a single girl with a small daughter and a career as a nurse, fantastic is what I want to feel, not sexy.
July 24th, 2011 at 2:00 pm
Mel, that’s a great title.
August 16th, 2011 at 7:17 am
I think the title is great and correct, it does draw people in! The more people are drawn in, the more can hear this powerful message about eating whole, clean foods & living a fulfilled happy life! The important thing is that each woman believes & knows SHE is sexy, and that’s what I feel this show is about. While ‘Eat Yourself Fantastic’ is a good title, it wouldn’t get the same numbers/appeal …
I can not wait to watch this!
[Reply]
I can’t wait for your new show Sarah – I’ve seen the on air promos and they look great. i love that you are following real women and giving them real advice. I love your blog, but sometimes find your path/experiences a bit extreme for me – I have a big corporate job, run a house and have two school age girls. I have made a few adjustments – things I can control and they have made a real difference, ie. giving up sugar, committing (loved that post) so thank you. really looking forward to seeing how other working mums implement changes in their life.
[Reply]
Well the camera sure loves ya.
All the very best with this new venture. So glad to see something focussing on ‘normal’ people, not models-who-are-all-knees-and-elbows or supersizers being put through boot camp antics to shed weight superfast.
[Reply]
July 22nd, 2011 at 4:34 pm
Focusing on normal people that ‘arent good enough/ sexy enough’ and blAtantly implying that they are not sexy or attractive as they are! Its only focus on normal people is to somehow make them more asthetically acceptable. ThAt is message the promo puts out. How absolutely humIliating for ‘poor normal girl’ in ad, but then victory! Has her boobs half out and is pouting!!! She is now acceptable. That is the message I’m getting, and quite frankly am sick of getting. Offensive to women. How about Eat Yourself Healthy? I guess that wouldn’t prey on our insecurities perpetuated by the media as much.

Will we be able to watch it online? I don’t have pay tv.
[Reply]
I love the concept! I feel all the emphasis on the title is beside the point. When you’re healthy, you feel your most beautiful and dare I say…sexiest! Nobody is saying “sexy” doesn’t come in every shape, I think the premise is that these ladies were not feeling this way and thanks to their healthy lifestyle changes they are feeling more vibrant in every way. Isn’t the point to feel your best? The promo is simply a promo.
Can’t wait to be able to watch over in America!
[Reply]
You are right ‘Nobody is saying that sexy doesn’t come in every shape,’ but I’d challenge you to deny that the ad is implying that sexy is a particular shape. I guess the sad fact of the matter is sex sells, healthy and happy does not. I hope the show is fantastic. I hope at the end of it our refreshingly ‘normal’ women aren’t pouting with their breasts out sending for their husbands. How demoralising.
[Reply]
August 16th, 2011 at 7:25 am
How is that demoralising?! In my opinion, a woman who is confident & feeling energised/well is going to be more prone to having a healthy sex life with her husband– whereas someone who doesn’t feel comfortable in their skin/body is going to be prone to resisting sex & intimacy–therefore causing other problems in the relationship and in life. Honestly, we are sexual beings and a healthy sex life is APART of ‘healthy & happy.’ The ad wasn’t a bunch of 20 year olds in bikinis, it was a woman who hasn’t made herself a priority– But then, she was taught to have a healthier relationship with food & love herself again, therefore making her look & feel better. That is the opposite of demoralising.
[Reply]
Sarah, will we be able to watch online? I live in the U.S would love to be able to watch this show!

Wow, this sounds absolutely fantastic! I’ve been dieting for ages, and have only recently found that by eating more better food, I can make permanent changes that make me feel good, rather than making myself miserable by not eating and wondering why I’m tired and depressed…
Best of luck with the show, what a great way to spread the message!
[Reply]
I like sexy.
There are so many shows about “losing”, “thin”, “healthy” (which is all well and good, but still alienating for people who are unwell, and it’s most often not their fault).
Sexy comes in all shapes and sizes, ages, ethnicities, physical conditions… Sexuality is totally individual because it comes from within. We exude it. Others don’t confer it upon us or take it away (unless we let them).
Eating right and taking care of ourselves gives us confidence and helps us to feel comfortable in our skin. Sexy!
PS it all relates to wholeheartedness, which is the essence of Sarah’s message lately… I think it all gels beautifully.

Hi Sarah,
I am following the meal plan and started today, so am on day 1. I ate the quinoa meal for lunch as directed, 1 cup of quinoa. After eating it I looked up the calories and portion sizes that are meant to be had from quinoa and it is a lot less – apparently you should only be eating 1/2 cup uncooked quinoa, not 1 cup. 1 cup packs a whopping 620 calories – that doesn’t sound like a meal to lose weight on!
Can you please advice/help now? I feel upset that I’ve just consumed that many calories.
[Reply]
August 28th, 2011 at 5:29 pm
Worry not! I lost 10 kg in 2 months (after I had my baby) from easting quinoa!! Why are you counting calories? Quinoa is gluten free so you lose weight super fast on it, it fills you up so you eat less bad things, its really really healthy and naturally organic, so your body actually uses it rather than store it and turn it to fat.

Love the show, but some constructive criticism, please be mindful of pronouncing words that end in “ing”, eg going, losing, coming. You tend to pronounce these words as goin’, losin’, comin’, etc. It is incredibly distracting to the otherwise great job you are doing hosting this show. Keep up the good work, great show!

Love this show… Is there a second series being planned? If so, how do I list my mum and I??

Hi Sarah,
I am interested in finding out whether or not “Eat yourself sexy” is looking for more people to be on the show.
I have been a type 1 diabetic since the age of 3 and my life has been filled with frozen packaged food with no vegies or fruit. As a child/teenager i loved sport/exercise but since leaving school i have stopped exercising. I feel like I’m always tired and flat and am always fighting back a cold.
I may not be seen as overweight but I am scared for my health as a diabetic. I don’t know how to help or change my diet, my partner Zak has tried to change things ever since we got together 3years ago but I’m so stubborn things seem to go back to normal.
I need help with diet and exercise and I watch “Eat yourself sexy” every week and just wish I could be shown HOW as a diabetic?
Kind Regards
Ainsley
