Quit Sugar New Year Program giveaway: Organic Acai powder

Posted on December 23rd, 2011

Note: This post has been updated! The offer closes Tuesday 27 December 5pm AEST

In January I’m launching an 8-week I Quit Sugar Program – everyone is welcome to join in. What a stupendous time to get off the white poison, no? And just for added incentive we’re giving away:

200 x packs of Riolife organic acai powder, worth $20 each.

This stuff is seriously great (and, so you know, it’s pronounced ah-sigh-ee). The bonus: RioLife’s pure Organic Acai Berry Powder is sustainably sourced and wild harvested from the Amazon rainforests of Brazil, it’s rich in antioxidants, good essential fatty acids omega 3, 6 and 9 and plenty of fibre.

And three more things of note for sugar detoxers:

1. Acai berries contain pretty much no sugar.

2. They’re one of the most anti-oxidising things going around….great for dealing with the toxins as they release over the next few weeks.

3. sprinkled on a range of different “treats” they make for a great dessert (see below) and are a KEY ingredient in my sugar-free pantry.

RioLife add absolutely nothing to their powder, they’re certified organic and the Australian boys behind the brand donate part of the sales to ACAIMU, a project of the Amazon Friendly Program to help build and fund schools in the areas where their Acai berries are sourced.

To try out the berries:

* Simply buy a copy of The I Quit Sugar ebook, $15, here. The first 200 buyers will receive a 50g pack of RioLife’s pure Organic Acai Berry Powder (although, sadly, this giveaway is only available to Australian buyers).

*  Since a few of you have inquired: we will email all giveaway winners and get postal addresses. Look out for Andrew’s note soon.

* Riolife founder Andrew will send your pack out in the New Year, in time for your reboot!

To gear you up, I’ve written before on some ways to use the acai powder here and here. I’m also loving this recipe:

Acai Almond Nectar

  • 1 – 2 cups raw almonds soaked overnight & rinsed
  • 1 – 2 tsp vanilla (scraped from the pod or natural – to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons shredded coconut
  • 1 – 2 tablespoon RioLife Acai powder

Place rinsed almonds & all other ingredients except acai in a blender. Cover with about 3 cups of water. Blend several times to pulverize all ingredients, blending all the flavors. Pour through a strainer (better yet a clean cotton cloth or nut milk bag) and squeeze out the milk over a bowl. The squeezing method is far more effective on getting all the liquid out. Mix in RioLife Acai powder. Serve!! Save the pulp for the base of a sweet recipe, like pie crust, cake or fudge.

Enjoy!

Hey, to answer the various questions along same lines…I provide these offers as they arise. Some of you asked the same question a while back and I think the best answer I gave was this: when Sportsgirl offers a discount on a pair of pants you bought the week or the day before, no one blinks an eye. Offers come and go and I have to be true to the conditions of this wonderful offer…as much as I’d love to offer everyone some Acai powder!
For those of you who bought the book a while back…well, you’ve had a few months of sugar free living. A bonus, surely!

    Katie Reply:

PFFT. I’d return the pants to Sportsgirl and buy them again at the discounted price. I believe, Sarah, you offer a full refund – no questions asked. So perhaps I will return my original book, get my money back and buy it again next time there’s a special deal.

    Seems reasonable to me.

Are you serious? I would never do that at a big chain like Sportsgirl, and I certainly wouldn’t do it to a small business….

    Mia Bluegirl Reply:

As someone who worked retail management for several years… Katie, that’s not cool at all. I’m glad most customers aren’t like that!

    Dana Reply:

Katie – I do the same! Mia – its called being savvy.

I bought the book in November and have been (mostly) sugar free for the entire time. The benefits are fantastic and i will be joining the challenge so that i can stay strong and sugar free over the Christmas Holiday and New Year period. So, you might have missed out on the Riolife Powder – don’t sweat it, just tell a friend to join up and they might win it x

  • I bought your book a few weeks ago and was planning on starting January 1st! So glad you are doing the 8 week program, it will definitely help keep me motivated! I’m also going gluten free for the first time to see if it helps cure my Auto-Immune symptoms. Thanks again for the great book!

    Sarah Wilson Reply:

Oh, Kim you MUST go gluten free. It will make a massive difference. Sugar and gluten are toxins that just fire up AI…can’t wait to hear how you go

I’ve been sugar free for most of last year… (I’m not dogmatic about it, I will still have whole, raw fruits, and occasionally if I’m eating with friends will have what is served, with or without sugar, no fuss.) However Christmas is Christmas and I have, for maybe the first time ever, felt the need to bake some Christmas family-recipes.
After taste testing my sugar rich Christmas comfort food all day as I packed, iced, sliced and prepared I now have what can only be described as a hangover. It feels exactly like a hangover, yet I haven’t drunk any alcohol – just eaten sugary treats… which are not so treat-like now as they churn in my tummy with the asprin I’ve just reached for.
After tomorrow I’ll be referring back to my e-book… and feeling sorry for myself. :)

I am looking forward to the program in Jan. I have not quite managed to quit sugar as I have fallen off a few times, and don’t have the habits strong enough yet, but would be good to give it a red hot go with support. It tastes nice but after I feel awful for 2 days and it burns my mouth oddly. I must try and remember this BEFORE! Lisa

Just bought the book (a few hours too late for the acai but on time for me to do this!) I have a few questions about doing this 8 weeks ‘together’
    1. Do we just keep popping back to the blog to check in and ask questions? Or are we signed up to receive special emails? (I don’t mind either way!)
    2. I have 2 kids who are very sugar addicted! I’d love to get them off it but can see some serious opposition from hubby (one of those blokes who eats anything and everything). Any tips for including children in on this. Do you think cutting down their sugar intake drastically would be as effective as cutting it out completely. I feel it may be difficult to cut out fruit… Not sure though. Any tips from others who have done this with kids? (mine are 3 and 18 months – I’m still very much in charge of what they eat so would like to do this for them now)
    3. A more specific question. What is the best yoghurt to be using/eating, and are all fruit yogurts a no-no? I’ve just perused the first few pages of the book and am thinking plain yoghurt is best yes?
    4. Do You think it is worth it to also read sweet poison now, or is your book a fairly succinct combo of that info and other info. Personally I’d like to read it but honestly I don’t think I have time to delve into a long winded description of why sugar is bad – I’m pretty convinced already!

Thanks for the info, the book and the inspiration to do this. I’m not 100% convinced I can do it yet, but shall be treating it as an experiment as you suggested.
