Happy Friday! To continue our summer Friday giveaways, I have a pretty special offer this week, particularly for everyone quitting sugar at the moment:
60 x 450g bags of The Muesli
This stuff is the best of the no-added sugar muesli on the market that I could find and I mention it in I Quit Sugar. The only sugar in the muesli is from the 5 nuts, 4 seeds, oats & coconut (hoorah! fructose-free!). Fitness nut, mum and TV producer Emma invented the range after chatting with her friend, celeb trainer Donna Aston, about the dire state of breakfast options for people wanting to be fructose-free and get real results from their diet. A very sound philosophy! You can buy direct online or at many health food shops and cafes. And PS, they have a gluten-free version as well and are running a 2-for-1 offer right now.
* To get your hands on one of these bags (worth $16.50, plus postage) subscribe to my I Quit Sugar newsletter here by COB AEST today (Friday). Or, if you prefer, sign up to my weekly newsletter here.
* If you’re already subscribed, subscribe a friend.
* I’ll be sending a little note out over the weekend with details of how to be in the running. Stay tuned!
* Sadly this offer is only available to Australian residents!
things to try with the muesli
I get more questions about breakfast ideas than just about anything else on this blog…so here’s some stuff to do with The Muesli…
bircher-style
Combine the muesli with 1-2 dstsp natural yoghurt, a splash of milk, and a small handful of frozen berries, or cut or grated fresh fruit. Stir and let sit for 15 minutes (or leave overnight if you like it really bircher’d up)
the roughie™
Combine a handful of fresh or frozen fruit (frozen raspberries and blueberries recommended), with 3 dstsp the muesli, 1-2 dstsp natural yoghurt, half a cup of milk and a couple of ice cubes. Mix with a hand blender in a tall jug and serve. More satisfying than a smoothie!
protein kick
For a super protein-rich breakfast, add 1 dstsp (20g) of good quality Whey Protein Isolate to the muesli – straight-up, bircher-style or the roughie.
blinis – a savoury treat
Use a food processor to grind a cup of the muesli to a course flour like consistency. Combine with a cup of Greek yoghurt and 2 eggs, a little salt & pepper for delicious blinis drop a teaspoon of batter onto non stick pan until small bubbles appear, turn to briefly cook other side. Perfect served with smoked trout and a dob of horseradish as a party nibble.
Reminder: We will only be able to send the muesli to Australian residents. Good luck!

Sarah – you read my mind, been on a muesli and almond milk trip lately and while I enjoy Macro’s Organic Raw muesli with coconut, there are really erratic with having it stocked!! I actually wasnt subscribed to the Quit Sugar e-letter , so all done now

I buy Macro Organic’s Raw Muesli with Coconut too – and pick all the dried fruit out! haha

Coconut is extremely low in fructose, but there’s still a tiny bit in there (including half of the mentioned sucrose)! http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumerinformation/nuttab2010/nuttab2010onlinesearchabledatabase/onlineversion.cfm?&action=getFood&foodID=11B10175 But unless you’re being stupidly obsessive, it’s nothing to worry about.
Also Sarah, thank you for this brilliant program. I’ve lost 11kgs to date, now am at a perfect weight for my height and eat as ‘much’ (quantity-wise) as I used to but am now eating the right things. Really important difference, as I’ve discovered. I’m bouncy, have clear, glowing skin and am just generally enjoying life without the lethargic, dark cloud that was sugar hanging over me constantly. Back to acting how a young guy should be acting, really.
You’ve really changed my life! Thank you. x

Agree Matt, great results. But surely this isn’t all just down to cutting out sugar. What about exercise? Also, how long have you been on the IQS program for?

To be honest Leila, when I read posts on this blog, I think the same thing. Oh, they must have exercised while quitting sugar, done something else etc. Other than lifting the occasional 20kg dumbbell in my backyard (which I have always done, mind you) I’ve exercised no more than usual.
The whole experience has just been incredible. I started at 98kg in November last year, am now at 87kg as of this morning.
I followed Sarah’s recommendations, but went cold turkey on all sugar from the first day of the plan. I still ate berries over the entire experiment (couldn’t cut it all out) and loved my coconut products, nuts, bread, eggs, cheese, yoghurt etc. I even continued to eat pizza (thin base, home made, fresh topping and minimal sauce) and pasta (pre-made Latino branded stuff even) about 1 or 2 times a week. As long as it fell into Sarah (and David Gillespie’s) sugar content per 100g guidelines, I just stuck by it.
I have strong willpower when I want to do something, so sticking to the plan was easy for me (once I got through the first 2-3 weeks).
I love my fruit, but used to eat it in such copious amounts. I also have a very sweet tooth, so it was something I wanted to change.
Living this experiment has just opened me up to a whole new way of living life. It has become everything Sarah talks about and more.
Obviously no person is the same, so it will work differently for everyone. I’m also a student, with no kids so I can worry about myself a lot more than I’m sure parents can.
You’ve just got to stick to in for the long haul and the results will come!

Hi Sarah, What are your thoughts on Flip Shelton’s Natural Muesli (the one with just nuts and seeds)? It has 2g sugar for 40.5g carbs. thanks, Sharon

I am eating Grain Sprouted bread instead of wheat or whole grain bread, its flour-less and vegan. Is that something to still ok to eat while on the 8 week plan? I am serious about cutting out sugar completely right now and want to make sure thats ok. It says it 1g of sugar per slice.
PS – Love this! From the States and think this program is a miracle!
